Emergency Electrocardiography
This Emergency Electrocardiography
book was developed
specifically for the Emergency Physician. Forward: by Robert
Boyd Tober, MD, FACEP: I am honored to write a forward to this text on emergency ECG
interpretation. Having worked with Dr. Marriott as a colleague for
two years, I would like to think that many of my own questions gave
him some additional impetus to clarify and elucidate some of the
greatest challenges in ECG interpretation--particularly when "alone
in the universe" at 4 a.m. with a difficult tracing to decipher.
This book is concise, targeted and, most of all, lays to rest many
of the questions and confusing issues challenging anyone who must
interpret an ECG urgently and accurately. Its aim is to address
those common areas of confusion and difficulty compounded by
clinical backgrounds of urgency. I believe any physician who must
make a quick and decisive interpretation of an ECG in an acutely ill
patient will welcome this wonderful safety net of advice and insight
into this most important aspect of electrocardiography. When lost
in an abyss of doubt, you will find this book clear, eloquent and a
rescue. This is the best treatment of the subject I have ever
read--it beats 37 volumes and the forklift to carry them--it's
faster, it's portable, and it is really terrific. RBT, Naples, FL

In 1991, the American Board of Internal Medicine copyrighted a list of 127 electrocardiographic diagnoses under 14 subheadings--to be used, among other things, as a reference list of potential diagnoses in the Cardiovascular Board Examination. Taking advantage of this handy and rather comprehensive list of ECG patterns and rhythms, Dr. Marriott used it as a framework for collecting and presenting exercises and examples of virtually all of the entities likely to be encountered either in practice or in the Board Examination--and this compact volume is the result, more an annotated atlas than a text. It contains more than 350 handpicked tracings--in fact, one for every day of a Leap Year! Dr. Marriott hopes that this collection of ECGs and comments will be of particular value to those preparing to take the ECG Board Examination now offered by the American Board of Cardiovascular Credentialing where you are now visiting or at www.ecgcertify.org, or those planning to take the Cardiology Board Certification Examination offered by the Board of Internal Medicine. It should provide a unique refresher course for panel readers in hospitals and prove a handy reference for physicians and other staff members in emergency departments; it should also provide a valuable source of examples for anyone who teaches the subject; and cardiovascular clinical nurse specialists and other advanced practice nurses should find it an invaluable resource.

Advanced ECG Lectures in DVD Format
by Henry J. L. Marriott, MD, FACP, FACC
Dr. Henry Marriott, MD, FACC, a World Renowned Cardiologist who we
all recognize as the Master Teacher of Electrocardiography agreed to
allow us to video-tape his last Advanced Electrocardiography
Workshop for Physicians before he retired from the lecture circuit.
He literally gave these lectures on all continents of the world
except for Africa.
The series of 14 individual lectures was converted to DVD Movie format to be used for your
personal use, or show the Movie to a group of advanced students.
He has made it very convenient for physicians to use his lectures in
the training of their Cardiology Fellows and physicians at an
Advanced Level. Dr. Marriott recently passed away and wanted
us to be sure and launch the series. This Advanced Series is a
treasure containing the Best of Marriott in a comfortable format
that you can either play on your home computer or on your DVD player
on your television.
The series is full of his
collective knowledge, wisdom, pearls, and is delivered in his usual
eloquent relaxed style that was so typically Dr. Marriott.
Enjoy the whole series for a discount.

Why use an Outside ECG/CAT?
To provide a
validated independent assessment of your staff's ability to record,
read, and respond to an ECG?
We have found
through a national survey that all hospitals make up their own
competency tests in ECG reading with no standard of practice to
follow. In these "home made" exams, the leads are often not
labeled, and there is only one rhythm strip or point of view per
entity, when more leads are is needed to make many diagnoses, and
they are totally lacking in skills performance testing for patient
ECG monitoring practice, and/or 12-lead applications.
Going up the
ladder a bit to the physicians, most hospitals just accept that a
physician can read an ECG, but in fact when large numbers of them
are tested, about half will be reading at a substandard level.
Yet others require their physician panel readers to be board
certified in ECG to read on the panels. In addition,
emergency physicians are not being made to pass an Emergency level
ECG Board Certification Exam and we are sending about 12% of our
patients home with ACS that was not recognized in our Emergency
departments. This problem could be alleviated by hospitals
insisting on ECG Board Certification for all staff members, not just
a few.
